Today, over a million Alpari clients across the world took part in an online campaign to show their support for the grandmaster #GoKaryakin
This week, the Berlin Candidates Tournament enters its final stages. The contest started on the 10th of March and will end on the 28th. Among the contestants are 8 of the world’s strongest gransmasters all vying for the right to challenge the current world champion; Magnus Carlsen from Norway, at the end of this year.
In round 12 of the Candidates, on the 24th of March, Sergey won a key match against US Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana, who was largely considered the favourite to win up to this point. Sergey has now leapfrogged Caruana to reach the top of the standings with 2 rounds to go. This is reminiscent of the previous Candidates Tournament in 2016, where Sergey also produced a stunning comeback to overcome a deficit and win the right to challenge for the world title, also at Caruana’s expense.
This news was met with great enthusiasm by hundreds of thousands of fans. We’ve received a huge number of messages of support from clients and chess enthusiasts all over the world. Today, Sergey’s manager, Kirill Zangalis, will fly to Berlin to give the grandmaster some words of encouragement.
But that’s not all! We have another surprise for Sergey to show him how much everyone believes in his talent and abilities. We’re launching a special campaign across our social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram) that will unite 1.2 million Alpari clients from 80 different countries under the slogan #GoKaryakin.
To take part in this campaign, you need to find our posts in support of Sergey across our social media accounts. Anyone can then repost our publications with a personal message of support for the grandmaster, which together will provide Sergey with a monumental boost at this critical time. We believe that the chess world will soon bear witness to some emphatic victories by Karyakin.
Alpari took on the mantra of returning the chess crown to Russia in 2012, signing a sponsorship deal with Sergey at the very beginning of his journey to the pinnacle of Russian chess. As Andrey Dashin, the international financial Alpari brand owner, has noted, over the years of working together, Grandmaster Sergey Karyakin has become one of the world’s most distinguished chess players, all the while improving Russia’s international standing in the game of chess as well as increasing its popularity across Russia and the CIS.
