On March 1st, the Alpari Tower was officially opened for business in Cyprus. A ginormous black-tie affair was held to mark the occasion. On the guest list were several prominent reporters, businessmen and diplomats from the island, including Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Vyacheslav Shumskiy and President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Phidias Pilides. Both expressed their optimism for the establishment of Alpari Financial Services Ltd (Alpari FS) in Cyprus, and spoke about the positive implications for the financial sector of Cyprus. Greek pop star Anna Vissi also stopped by to perform some of her top hits as well as some traditional songs from her native Cyprus.
Alpari’s Chairman of the Board Andrey Dashin was on hand as well to deliver a speech, in which he commented, "Looking back on our now almost 14 years, it gives us great pleasure to see the accomplishments that have been achieved. What started out as a big dream, pursued with much excitement and enthusiasm, materialized and spread across the world. We started with a small office with just a few staff, and now Alpari is successfully established in 22 countries. The Alpari Tower has been specifically selected to accommodate this rapid growth, and being situated in Cyprus, which is strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa, it will play a key role in the ongoing and future expansion of the Alpari Family."
