About the author

Tomasz Wisniewski

Tomasz was born in Warsaw, Poland on 25th October, 1985. He received a bachelor's degree from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland, a master's degree from Leeds University in the UK and a postgraduate degree in Management from the University of Warsaw. He has been on the markets since 2008. Tomasz first started actively trading and investing on the Warsaw Stock Exchange equities market and then moved towards contracts and the Forex market.

Before coming to Alpari, Tomasz worked at Admiral Markets for over three years, being responsible for education, the sales department and media presence. He has also worked in the oldest Polish currency brokerage house, where he was responsible for education and media presence.

During his career, Tomasz has held over 400 webinars, live seminars and lectures across Poland. He is also an academic lecturer at Poland’s Kozminski University. In his previous work, Tomasz initiated live trading programs, where he traded on real accounts, showing his transactions, providing signals and special webinars for the accounts; neither of which were ever negative.

Tomasz gives preference to a technical approach to trading: mainly price action with a very strict money management rules. He believes that the most important thing in trading is your mind, so it is much better to focus on trading psychology than to look for the Holy Grail of trading systems.

Bitcoin: on track to our target

We’re keeping an eye on bitcoin once again this week. We analysed the top cryptocurrency a week ago, and unsurprisingly, we were right! At the time of writing my previous piece, bitcoin was above 3,400 USD and we had a bearish outlook, saying that we should go much lower than this, having one particular target in mind.

CADJPY: one support left

This analysis is for traders who do not care much about the instrument they're trading on. Many market participants believe that technical setups work on any instrument and they go beyond the major pairs, gold, and oil. This analysis is about CADJPY, where we see a classic sell signal.

AUDNZD: testing the new resistance

The new week starts for us with an interesting trading opportunity on AUDNZD. This pair has recently been following the technical protocol with great accuracy, so it provides us with a very interesting occasion.

NZD keeps up the good work

One of the best-performing currencies among the G10 in the last few weeks is NZD. I am going to use the example of the NZDUSD to show you how well the Kiwi is doing. The pair was rising even amid global turmoil, and it should be quite the opposite given that NZD tends to make most of its gains in risk OFF mode. Not anymore.

Gold finally breaks the crucial resistance

I will start this analysis by telling you that in the past few months, the movements on gold have been a bit, let's say, weird. Gold is not behaving as it has been over the past few years. The correlation between the USD and the risk ON/OFF mode seems broken. Gold is following its own path. Luckily, technical analysis works in any situation and this is what we will focus on now.

Bitcoin: this year will end differently than in 2017

Time to deal with bitcoin again. I last mentioned this instrument on the 19th of November, when the price was slightly above 5,200 USD. We had a fresh sell signal after the breakout of the 6,000 USD support. Our analysis was spot on, the price fell like a rock! It has now been almost a month. Has anything changed here?
